The man with the geography books

Monica Wang

First to stand outside the glass doors, last to leave at dusk. He reads oversized geography reference books spread over the smallest desk by the walkway. No one else likes to sit there, for those who pass by bend slightly over the sitter, as if reading over a shoulder. Once a day he writes an email to his sister. In the shadow of the audiovisual room's granite columns, he sleeps.

Someday he might have a library card. Today he has the library.

Monica Wang worked at a library. She currently writes in Amsterdam. ≈
